A decent patio starts with knowing what the weather does to the ground

Rain makes everything harder. I learned that early, working in Ireland where the falls never really stop and a badly laid patio turns into a skating rink before winter’s out. Getting the sub-base right, getting the falls set correctly so water runs clear of the house, that’s the work nobody sees but everybody feels.

We do this full time out of Takeley, Essex. Patios are the main thing. Here’s what we lay:

• Indian sandstone
• Concrete flagstones
• Natural stone paving
• Block paving
• Garden paving and paths

Every material has its own character. Porcelain is tough and low maintenance. Sandstone breathes a bit more, takes on colour over the seasons. Concrete flags are honest, straightforward slabs that get the job done. We work with all of them.

More than just the patio surface

Most jobs grow once the customer walks the garden with us. (That’s just how it goes, and we’d rather scope it properly than come back twice.) We put up timber fencing and garden walling, lay roll-on turf for a clean lawn finish, and install artificial grass where low maintenance is the point.

It rarely ends at the patio edge. Paths get added. A wall ties the whole thing together. We work across it all.

How we work

We quote straight. No vague estimates that balloon later. We turn up when we say we will, which, frankly, shouldn’t need saying. I grew up near the Ballyboden St Enda’s ground in Dublin and watched lads put in serious graft every weekend. That standard carries over.

We cover Takeley and the surrounding parts of Essex. The ground here is workable most of the year, however we always check conditions before we start lifting.
