Get that wrong and you end up with lips between slabs, drainage issues, and a surface that won’t last two winters. We size the sub-base and bed depth to the slab, not the other way round.

Sandstone and limestone are still the go-to for a lot of gardens around here. They bed in well, they suit the older properties in this part of Warwickshire, and they age properly. However, they do need to be laid on a sound base or you’ll be relaying them inside five years.
